This Libguide extends the Teaching Material Collection of the library by providing links to materials typically needed by educators. This Libguide, in conjuction with the Education Libguide, provide both inservice and pre-service educators with a rich supply of materials to enhance teaching. Please take the time to leave feedback that will help keep this material useful and relevant.
Teaching Materials Collection can currently be found in the lower level of the library. Users will find K-12 textbooks, childrens and young adult literature and teaching resources all arranged using the Dewey Decimal system just as a typical K-12 school would use. The TMC is available during regular library hours.
Book Awards links to most major book awards for children's and young adutl literature, including state of Indiana awards.
Catalogs are useful for ordering classroom supplies. Library books listed on this page can be useful in creating classroom displays and bulletin boards.
Children's Databases are designed to provide age appropriate material for students. Many are provided through the state of Indiana through project Inspire. Links are also provided to access databases with information for curriculum development.
Children's Books, specifically ebooks, can be found many places online. A link is provided to information on make ebooks! This page links to many free sources for ebooks for children and teens. Information on finding books by lexiles is also included here.
Curriculum Standards are used worldwide to standardize education. Standards can be found for learners P - 12.
Diversity can be difficult for teachers to address. This page provides information and links to a myriad of classroom resources to help educators address ethnic, ability, religious and gender diversity.
Games are quite useful in education for all age learners. Many are freely available on the Internet.
Textbooks are a cornerstone of education. They're also rapidly changing! The state of Indiana reviews textbooks and provides rubrics for those who wish to perform their own textbooks. Higher ed is moving more into open source materials. Several Unversities are know for their historic textbook collections and provide online access.
Hoosier Reading Programs, MyOn Books, provides access to Hoosier readers.
Professional Teaching Organizations including labor organizations, are important to K-12 educators.
