International Students: Your Guide to the ISU Library: Writing and Citation Help

The guide provides information on library resources.

ISU Writing Center

The Writing Center is located on the second floor of the library.

Click on the link to find out more about their services and to schedule an appointment.

Using the Writing Center is free.

Endnote and Zotero

Endnote and Zotero are bibliographic tools.  They can help you keep track of your citations.  This can be helpful if you are working on a thesis or dissertation.

Check them out using the links below.  Both are free for ISU students.

Dictionaries

Below are links to free dictionaries.  Use them when you find a word and you do not know the meaning of the word.

Why You Need to Cite Your Sources

In the United States, colleges and universities are very particular about using citations in academic work.  Using citations shows the reader that you are giving credit to others when you use their ideas in your work--an article, a presentation, a book chapter--if the ideas are not your own ideas--you must cite them in your work.

There are different types of citations for different disciplines.  A few of the citation types are on this page.

Sometimes students have difficulty in deciding if they should cite a source or not cite it.  If you have questions about citing a source, you can meet with the Writing Center in the library or meet with a librarian to help you.
