A library catalog is a database that includes the inventory of the library. Whatever the library owns or provides access to is entered into the catalog. It is used to find specific items in the library collection. It also stores hidden details for the librarian about purchase date, cost, etc. that the user doesn't see. Research/Instruction librarians become intimately acquainted with its search capabilities. It is a very important tool to find information resources.
Library Catalog
The Library Catalog is the advanced search. Your ISU ID card allows you borrowing privileges of ISU Library materials. Use the Library Catalog as your first option for locating books, scores, microfilms, journal titles (but NOT articles), sound recordings, and videos owned by Indiana State University, as well as Web-based resources that are accessible via the catalog (electronic books and journals).
The Library Catalog can be searched to find out what journal, newspaper, and magazine subscriptions ISU holds. It CANNOT be used to search for journal ARTICLES or newspaper ARTICLES or magazine ARTICLES.
All libraries have a library catalog. Many library catalogs are available to search online for free. If you need materials from other libraries and do not have transportation, use Interlibrary Loan service to request them which can obtain . those items for use by ISU students and employees.
