Topic Overview

Although some circles continue to debate whether climate change stems from human-caused or natural factors, virtually all sectors of society now recognize the reality of global temperature change and its adverse effects on the planet and human society. As the scientific consensus on global warming becomes more sobering, international and national initiatives to curb global warming have gained in importance and urgency. The U.N. takes the threat of climate change very seriously and growing concern about climate change has led many states and cities to adopt measures to reduce energy consumption and curb CO2 emissions. In light of mounting evidence of rapid global temperature change and President Barack Obama’s renewed focus on policy initiatives aimed at curbing climate change, the topic is a timely subject of research and study. The Undergraduate Library offers a multitude of resources, both electronically and in print, which provide valuable information on the history of and the current situation of this important topic.
