Welcome to Authors & Artists 2025

8 Dec 2025:             Submissions due to Liaisons (Edi is requesting hers by 15 Nov)

4 March 2026          Authors and Artists Celebration

Events Area at Cunningham Memorial Library

Reception 2:30-3pm

Honors Presentations 3:00-4:00pm

The annual authors and Artists Event honors ISU staff or faculty who have “published” scholarly creations within the past calendar year. For the 2026 celebration, everything honored would have bee "published" in 2025. If an author/artist is not recognized in a timely fashion, they may appeal to the University Librarian to be included in the following year’s celebration; the University Librarian will review each request on a case-by-case basis.

The library initiates a Call for Submissions and makes every effort to identify potential honorees. Department chairs are encouraged to alert their librarian liaison if faculty members have published a work. Authors are welcome to inform their librarian liaison at any time of the publication of their work. Authors are invited to donate copies of their work to the ISU Library for inclusion in both the Faculty Collection and the general collection.

Books

Eligibility guidelines include:

  • Books must be published by a traditional publisher (no self-publication).
  • Individuals honored must be its author, editor, or translator.
  • Publication date is determined by the book’s copyright page.
  • Translators who are ISU staff or faculty are eligible to be honored.
  • Examples of eligible entries include: author of a fiction or non-fiction book or editor of a book published in either print or electronic format.

Artistic work

It is assumed that the majority of artistic work will come from the Art, Theater, or Music Departments; however, others who wish to self-identify are welcome to do so.

Eligibility guidelines include:

  • The artistic accomplishment must be completed within the last calendar year.
  • Off campus artistic accomplishments must be held at a professional venue. Examples include major theatrical performances that include but are not limited to an actor; guest soloist; composer in a major musical performance; conductor; director; or scenic designer of a theatrical work at an established, professional venue.  Examples of these venues would include Indianapolis Civic Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, Broadway, and Broadway touring companies. Recordings of original works by a professional recording firm are also acceptable.

Articles (PRELIMINARY AWARD; NEW THIS YEAR)

Eligibility includes

  • First or second author of a scholarly, peer reviewed journal article published within the last calendar year appearing on an international quality ranking list. This may include those published in open access.
  • The library may rely on Deans or Chairs to validate and approve any publication selected.
  • Citations for articles will appear in an annual pamphlet. Given the volume of works created, individual article authors will not be recognized during the event. Attendees will receive a copy of the pamphlet.
