The majority of materials in the ISU library are organized by the Library of Congress Classifications System (LCC).
The LCC system is used by academic and research libraries in the United States. The system is an alpha-numeric (using letter and numbers) to create a call number to tell you where the item is in the library. The call number tells you the location of an item in the library.
The lower level (LL) of the library houses Teaching Materials. The items in the area are organized by the Dewey Decimal System.
If you want more information on the LCC or the Dewy Decimal system, click on the links below or ask at the Circulation Desk.
There are many ways to get help in the library. You may have a general question (what are the library hours) or a detailed research question (I need help developing a thesis statement and finding resources to support the thesis statement). We can help you with general and specific questions!
You can meet with a librarian in person or via Zoom. You can also go to the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the library and ask to meet with a librarian. You can also call the librarian on the telephone.
We also have several electronic ways to meet with you.
Look at the links below for ways to get assistance in the library.
You may need to use a webcam, DVD writer, dry-erase markers, or other equipment while you are in the library.
Click on the link below to see what is available for your use.
The equipment is free for you to use.
You need your ISU ID to check items out to use them.
Welcome to the Cunningham Memorial Library at Indiana State University. We are here to help you. If you have any questions, ask us. You can chat, email, telephone, or ask questions at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of the library.
This guide provides information on the resources and services in the library.
We look forward to meeting you!

Many libraries in the United States are open libraries. That means you can wander around floors of the library, look at the resources (books, DVD's, CD's) on the shelves, take them off the shelves, and "check them out" to take out of the library. When you check something out of the library, it has a "due date"--this is the date the item should be returned to the library. Different items in the library have different due dates. You need your ISU ID to check items out of the library. You can also renew or extend the loan period for an item you checked out.
Items can be charged fines if they are not returned on time. Below are links for information on loans periods for items checked out and how to renew an item you checked out at the ISU library.
If you need accommodations to use resources in the library, check out the Library Accessibility Information Link below.
