Many of the article links are, and will continue to be, from the Tribune-Star, so be forewarned. Bristol, Indiana - July 4, 2011 - a briefly note in the Terre Haute Tribune Star from Tribune-Star Wire Services noted: The Goshen News reported that the Bristol Community Food Pantry was facing its first funding shortfall since opening in 2006. Demand for food and a lack of monetary and food donations has combined to cause the problem. In June 2010, 65 families were served; in June 2011, more than 100 households used the pantry's services. [1] The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank [that's not a secret btw]. So, I'm watching the July 26, 2011 Colbert Report and he referenced the Foundations' document "Executive Summary" and "Backrounder" on 'What Is Poverty in the US Today?" published July 19, written by Robert Rector and Rachel Sheffield [Backgrounder #2575]
The Backgrounder seems to be their way of saying: longer article [25 pages], but a 1-page Executive Summary is also available.
Regardless of whatever emphasis the group puts on the topic, I thought you might find it interesting.
Note to ISU Students working on the Poverty/Hunger/Homelessness research/writing project: some of you might wish to use this as a source. That's fine, but be aware of possible bias in publications/sources like this [yes there are liberal equivalents out there too]. Who do they use as experts and whose research to they use to support their arguments - always 2 important aspects to be aware of. [posted July 29, 2011]
