Toward Understanding Homelessness: (Report)
12 papers from the 2007 National Symposium on Homelessness Research; brought together 200 researchers, policy makers, government officials, service providers, and consumers from across the country to discuss the research papers and directions for future research related to homelessness. This Symposium was a follow-on event to the first National Symposium on Homelessness Research, which took place in 1998 and was also sponsored by HHS and HUD.

This group conducted the January, 2010 Homeless Point-in-Time Count of the homeless, both sheltered and unsheltered, in Vigo, Clay, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion and Parke counties. I couldn't find a TribStar article following the count, so contact the people above.

Homelessness in Indiana - Specific Items

The Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program (HPRP) is created by funds from Title XII of the American Recovery and Rehabilitation Act of 2009 (ARRA) to allow expanded prevention and/or rapid rehousing for persons with moderate barriers to stable permanent housing. It is available to entitlement cities and the balance of state with a total allocation of approximately $28 million for Indiana. IHCDA is working with Indiana Continuum of Care regions to develop “single point of access” organizations to coordinate and administer these funds. Point-in-Time Counts

Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention (Indianapolis)
On January 21, 2010, 1,488 individuals were experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis, according to a comprehensive count conducted that night. According to the 2010 Homeless Count Report, 39% or 580 of the individuals experiencing homelessness in our community are members of a homeless family. Our homeless neighbors include individuals who are employed, veterans, women fleeing from domestic violence, and 362 children under the age of 18.
