Microforms

Microforms are either films or paper containing microreproductions of documents for transmission, storage, reading, and printing. Microform images are commonly about 25 times smaller than the original document size. All microform images may be provided as positives or negatives, more often the latter.

Three formats are common:

  • microfilm (film reels),
  • microfiche (flat film sheets)
  • Microcards (cardboard sheets)
