Evidence-Based Practice: EBP Nursing

Evidence-Based Practice for the health disciplines

Evidence-Based Practice, Step by Step

Arizona State University College of Nursing and Health Innovation's Center for the Advancement of Evidence-Based Practice presents a collection of articles providing steps for evidence-based practice. The series provides nurses with the knowledge and skills they need to implement EBP consistently, one step at a time. Articles appear every two months and have an expiration date for access.

Joanna Briggs Institute

The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) is a prestigious Australian EBP organization.

Indiana State University does NOT have a subscription to the JBI databases. But you may search the databases using the free links below.

Use Check Availability and Interlibrary Loan to find full-text. If you do not have complete citation information for an Interlibrary Loan Article request, put in what you do have.  Be sure to list the Journal Title as JBI or the Joanna Briggs Institute. Interlibrary Loan staff have been warned about JBI requests and will try to obtain it if it is available. They will contact you if they have questions.

EBP and Nursing

Sigma Theta Tau International defines evidence-based nursing (EBN) as an integration of the best evidence available, nursing expertise, and the values and preferences of the individuals, families and communities who are served.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing is increasing, but it is unlikely that you will find evidence-based recommendations for all patient problems. Systematic reviews, meta analyses, and guidelines take time to research and produce. That delays their publication and distribution.

Levels of Evidence (Melnyck and Fineout-Overholt)

Levels of evidence may vary by author, publication, or source. Check with your instructor to see what definitions are being used for levels of evidence in your class.
