About the term "Monkeypox"

The World Health Organization (WHO) is considering changing the name of "monkeypox" because the name may be seen as discriminatory. Official names of diseases are determined by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). 

"Mpox will become a preferred term, replacing monkeypox, after a transition period of one year."  (WHO, 28 Nov. 2022).
