Special Collections

Welcome to the Department of Special Collections on the 3rd floor of Cunningham Memorial Library.

What we do

In this department of the library, we maintain the access to and preservation of rare materials. These materials range from early printed books to vintage cheerleader uniforms and outdoor sculptures. We provide quality instruction through lectures, publications, and research consultations to the university and local community.

We also work behind the scenes to organize, protect, and add to the collections available to our patrons (that's you!)

  • University Archives contains information about Indiana State created by the people who work here, including but not limited to back-issues of the Indiana Statesman, Board of Trustees meetings' minutes, and student organization documents.
  • Rare Books & Manuscripts consists of different collections of items that are unique or rare; we have divided them into major groups by subject or donor but there is a wide variety of material available.
  • Permanent Art Collection is an academic collection of a variety of styles, artists, and media that can be used to instruct and inspire, ranging from works by Andy Warhol to African textiles and public sculpture.
