ISU DISTANCE LEARNING STUDENTS: Students taking all distance learning classes (and, therefore, are assumed to not have easy access to ISU's campus) can request that Interlibrary Loan send them physical materials owned by ISU's Cunningham Memorial Library. Some materials, such as DVDs and reference materials, do not qualify.
If you have a citation and you need the full-text of the article, try the following steps:
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) offers a service where ILL staff will find and obtain the full-text of your article and send it to you via the ILL software. However, they are very busy and they cannot promise speedy delivery. You must decide if/when this service meets your needs.
To find out if we have electronic access to a journal, check the ISU Library's gold-colored E-journals/E-newspapers database of online journals.
Go to the ISU Library homepage at http://library.indstate.edu/
At the top of the webpage, click Find
Click Electronic Resources (Articles).
Under Find e-journals, eBooks, and media by title or identifying number: and to the right of Title begins with, enter the title of the journal, NOT the title of the article. Click Search.
A list of results appears with your words in the title of the journal. Scroll the list for your journal. When you find it, click the database name which contains the appropriate year for your journal article. The database will open in a new window. Browse to the appropriate year and article.
Different databases will do this differently. Some take you directly to the article; some to the webpage for the journal. Another opens the correct database but you have to search for the article you want.
ISU has a special contract with ScienceDirect where the library buys immediate access to its articles as needed by ISU patrons. All ScienceDirect journals and e-books are not findable using the E-journals/E-newspapers search above.
Go to the ISU Library homepage at http://library.indstate.edu/
At the top of the webpage, click Find
Click Electronic Resources (Articles)
Click All Databases A-Z.
Scroll down and click ScienceDirect.
ScienceDirect articles are – for the most part – covered by the ISU Transactional Access contract. These articles will incur additional costs to the Library, so we ask you to carefully consider whether you need a copy of the article for your research or assignments. The ISU Library has set aside a specific amount of our collection development funds for this purpose; therefore, there is a finite number of articles that ISU will be able to provide in this manner each month. If your research or homework project will require a large number of articles or publications, we encourage you to contact the Library to discuss how we may best meet your needs.
REGISTER
Access to full-text in ScienceDirect requires users to create a free ScienceDirect account. At the top of the webpage in ScienceDirect, click Create Account and register with your ISU e-mail. In the top right corner should be the following words: Brought to you by:Indiana State University | Cunningham Memorial Library
