Here's how you find the first page of the NYT for your birthday

PLEASE NOTE: THIS ASSIGNMENT WORKS BETTER IN MICROSOFT EDGE OR GOOGLE CHROME THAN IN FIREFOX.

  1. Go to the library’s home page (library.indstate.edu).
  2. Click on the “Electronic Resources” link under “For Students” on the left side of the page.
  3. Click on the gray “Browse Databases A to Z” button on the Electronic Resources page.
  4. On the alphabetical list, click on “N” for the “New York Times Historical 1851-2009” database.
  5. When the PROQUEST page comes up, click on the “advanced search” link.
  6. Click on the “date” box drop down arrow, and click on the words “on this date.”
  7. Type in your birthdate (remember to use all four digits for the year). 
  8. Right below that, go to the box labeled “Document Type,” scroll down and check the box that says “front page article.”
  9. Click Search and the results will be those front page articles that were indexed from that day.
  10. Click on any article.  You can print, save or email it. 
  11. If your instructor wants you to show the full front page, click on "Page view - PDF."  You now have the front page of the New York Times for your birthday.  You can print, save or email it.
