The course for which this LibGuide is designed requires a Country Case Study. Students must research a country, generally, so that requires knowledge of general sources that provide a basic overview including Geography & Climate, History & Political Structure, Communications, Transportation, Religion, Language, Education, Economy, Social Structure, Health attitudes & practices, Rural vs. Urban Life, and Housing.
The student must then find information on Population Characteristics, Health & Environmental Characteristics, before moving on to the heart of the course.
Food research areas include Farm size, production, marketing, exports & imports, dietary patterns, and food beliefs.
Related to that is Health Resources including medical personal, hospital size (# of beds), health clinics, training institution, laboratory & special facilities, accessibility and quality of services, and what assistance is available from International Agencies.
Having accomplished all of this background research, the student then ponders and answers: 1) what is the most serious nutrition problem in the country; 2) what would be the ideal solution to this problem and 3) what would be a viable alternat solution?
Leave time during your research to request needed materials not available locally via Interlibrary Loan [ISU users only; Vigo County users submit requests via VCPL's Interlibrary Loan services]. When searching ISU Library's subscription databases, you will find many online full-text articles within the databases you are searching. You will see the "360 Search" link if an item is not available. Clicking that will either lead you to another of our databases with the full-text of the article, or to a clickable link into Interlibrary Loan. You can always submit requests directly into your Interlibrary Loan account.
