The course for which this LibGuide is designed requires a Country Case Study. Students must research a country, generally, so that requires knowledge of general sources that provide a basic overview including Geography & Climate, History & Political Structure, Communications, Transportation, Religion, Language, Education, Economy, Social Structure, Health attitudes & practices, Rural vs. Urban Life, and Housing.
The student must then find information on Population Characteristics, Health & Environmental Characteristics, before moving on to the heart of the course.
Food research areas include Farm size, production, marketing, exports & imports, dietary patterns, and food beliefs.
Related to that is Health Resources including medical personal, hospital size (# of beds), health clinics, training institution, laboratory & special facilities, accessibility and quality of services, and what assistance is available from International Agencies.
Having accomplished all of this background research, the student then ponders and answers: 1) what is the most serious nutrition problem in the country; 2) what would be the ideal solution to this problem and 3) what would be a viable alternat solution?
