Media Writing: Getting the Facts

A lot of sites post information that is tertiary at best, ie far removed from the source. How to get around this problem? If you are going to use Google:

• use Google Advanced Search rather than Google
• use Google News Advanced Search
• try a directory search via Google
• Google Book Search
• Google Realtime

• add specific domains to your search such as .edu .org .gov
• get corroboration from multiple sources
• Google's Wonder wheel - start entering a search. Scroll down; on left, look for Wonder wheel - click on 'Show Search Results' if you don't see it listed
