Through an approval book plan arrangement, the Libraries contract a major book jobber to acquire current imprints at a very favorable discount. The approval plan is designed to provide receipt of books whose subject content and academic level correspond with the University's academic curricula. Criteria for selection are based on a subject profile and specific non-subject parameters established with the book jobber. The profile is periodically reviewed and adjusted due to fiscal restraints and changes in curricula.
The Libraries' approval plan provides books within a few weeks of publication and supports the broad range of the university's academic programs. Return of "unacceptable" books is usually permitted. Approval books are charged to the Libraries' general fund account.
